This week, Sotheby’s New York is set to showcase a notable piece from Sylvester Stallone’s personal collection, the Patek Philippe Grand Master Chime ref. 6300G, alongside several other watches from his repertoire. The Grand Master Chime stands out as Patek’s most intricate timepiece, boasting 20 complications and making its auction debut from Stallone’s esteemed collection.

Stallone’s collaboration with Sotheby’s marks a significant moment, following his previous sales with Phillips in 2020. A video featuring Stallone discussing his watch collection and its origins, including a chance encounter with Gregg Allman, adds depth to the narrative surrounding these timepieces. Phillips also joins the auction spectacle with standout pieces like the Philippe Dufour Duality, showcasing innovative craftsmanship with its double escapement system, and the Hajime Asaoka Tourbillon prototype No. 0, representing the pinnacle of independent watchmaking.

Noteworthy mentions from Phillips include the Roger Dubuis Hommage Condottieri, offering a departure from modern designs with its enamel dial and Geneva Seal, and a vintage Ulysse Nardin split seconds chronograph, showcasing the brand’s heritage in precision timekeeping.

Despite the spotlight on high-profile timepieces, a note of caution accompanies the auction excitement. A Patek Philippe 1578GM at Christie’s sparks scrutiny due to discrepancies in its provenance and description, highlighting the importance of transparency and authenticity in the auction process.

Among the headliners at Christie’s is the Richard Mille Tourbillon Sapphire RM56-02, a testament to modern horological innovation with its sapphire construction and skeletonised design.
