In 2003, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of what has become a true icon, Rolex unveiled a special version of its Rolex Submariner at the Basel watch fair, offering for the first time in its history a green insert. As often happens, collectors quickly found a nickname for it, and its striking color earned it the moniker “Kermit”, echoing the famous frog from the Muppet Show. Inside, the 16610 features the Rolex caliber 3135, an automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve, an incredibly reliable, chronometer-grade movement used extensively by the brand. The caliber is protected via a solid case back that helps ensure water resistance to 300 meters (1,000 feet), with the entire watch secured to the wrist via a stainless steel Oyster bracelet with a matching safety clasp to prevent accidental opening.
