The Rolex Air King model has a rather longer history than one would expect. Introduced in 1957, it has been one of the longest running lines, although Rolex ceased production intermittently and continues to revive it, most recently in 2016. It was Rolex’s answer to capturing its entry-level customers with a more affordable line. The overall aesthetics include nice, clean lines with a smooth bezel and a sporty Oyster bracelet. It is fitted with the self-winding caliber 1520 movement (referred to as a caliber 1525 with calendar). While it is not a chronometer-certified movement, its robust construction and reliability have garnered solid reputation for its overall performance level. Plus, this version has a date function, which makes it as purposeful as – and far rarer than – a Datejust.
